Overview
Virtual Mentoring Program is a curriculum based, group, and one-on-one mentoring program dedicated to strengthening the lives and communities of young women in impoverished neighborhoods. Female mentors provide each young girl with support, counsel, friendship, reinforcement and constructive example. Our Mentors are required to commit to the program for a minimum of one year and spend four to six hours per month with their mentee, serve as a role model to enhance knowledge and self-awareness on such issues as self-esteem, self image, relationship building, career choices and much more.
The virtual mentoring programs have allowed youth to maintain positive relationships with college students, entrepreneurs, and young professionals on its online portals
The program mission is to empower girls through mentoring, building their self-confidence and challenging them to discover and fulfill their potential.

The IMPACT
high impact.
DEW! operates in communities where little to no leadership programs exist for girls. By speaking to young women living in poverty during their formative years about issues of self-worth, health, goals and aspirations. DEW! is able to have the highest impact in interrupting the poverty cycle. Our program takes place in a community center, which allows any girl ages 14 -25 years old in the community to join the program.
innovative.
Mentorship program addresses the crisis facing adolescent girls living in poverty, and understands the need for positive self-images, a strong sense of awareness and access to resources. The sessions are designed to be creative and enriching, and we often bring in guest speakers and workshops to enhance discussions.
holistic & sustainable.
As our program participants are young women, we are able to follow the girls through high school and onto college, at which point we encourage them to come back as mentors for the DEW! program in their neighborhood.

Why Virtual Mentoring?
Virtual mentoring is a relatively new trend over the past few years for mentors and protégés. Extensive data on the outcomes and impacts of the effectiveness of virtual mentoring is not yet conclusive, as many of the studies are still in their development phases. However, virtual mentoring implications for the development of individuals and career development intervention have been researched and explored. Virtual mentoring is an alternative to traditional mentoring because it is cost-effective and more importantly has the potential be high-touch in an evolving hi-tech world.
Virtual mentoring is easier to manage, less costly, unconstrained by geography or time, faster, and more egalitarian than traditional mentoring. As with any program there are challenges of using computer-mediated communication for mentoring purposes such as personal interaction across subjects. However, there are numerous alternatives that can be implemented in counter to the downsides of face-to-face interaction such as video chats and photography. Using virtual mentoring can be a lifelong education tool, educating mentors and protégés, supporting a multicultural workforce, and building knowledge.
